Understand Newton's three laws, free-body diagrams and common misconceptions in Class 11 Mechanics.
The first law and inertia
An object keeps its state of rest or uniform motion unless a net external force acts. The key word is 'net'.
The second law as a tool
F = ma connects forces to motion. Apply it separately along chosen axes after drawing a free-body diagram.
The third law and pairs
Action and reaction act on different bodies, so they never cancel each other in a single free-body diagram.
Common misconceptions
Motion does not require a force; change in motion does. Normal force is not always equal to weight.
